23(04) a nursery and some apartments
renovation and construction of a nursery and apartments in Brussels North
The dimensions and proportions of the existing building suggest that it has the potential for a new life, and that it could easily withstand the overly inactual gesture of demolition. Preserving it means fitting in with the district's mutation strategy, and with the city's desire for an East-West connection. This is why the new 19m cubic volume rises up in this relatively dense part of the district, while ensuring a reconnection between the two street fronts. This new element, freed from the technical constraints of the old building, finds its formal autonomy and can easily accommodate the functions required for the operation.
